Gerd Weight loss??……….?

for the past week i have felt like i have a lump in my throat.. i found out that i have gerd and its really bad i cant really eat anything i am on medicine to make the lump feeling go away. im worried that ill be losing weight when i don’t really need to be.. i found out that im going to have to be on this Gerd diet or acid reflex diet.. where i can’t eat any type of fried foods, salad dressing, mayo or mustered and cheese… so i pretty much can’t eat anything i used to eat..im just wanting to know if this is going to cause a lot of weight loss or if ill be okay?

thanks.

I did a quick search and found this: http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/GERD_Diet

Wow.. that looks like a huge pain in the butt. If it would be unhealthy for you to lose weight, it looks like you can still have low-fat cheese and lean meats, eggs. Check on peanut butter – it’s high calorie, and has good fats in it. It looks like you can have whole grain bread, that plus some low-fat cheese would be good. Can you have pasta noodles? those are fairly high calorie.

While I don’t see anything on that list that says ‘no peanut butter’ – it is ‘fatty’. so I don’t know. You’d have to ask your doctor about making sure you have enough to eat – lean meats don’t have a lot of calories, and I imagine you wouldn’t want to eat tons of it. Figure out what you do eat in a day, and count the calories up. If you don’t have enough, – 1200 min, for a woman, 1500 min, for a man, more if you aren’t on a diet – closer to the 1800-2200 range, find out if maybe you can have soups with veggies and beans and rice maybe? The site suggests ‘brown rice’, so maybe a veggie and meat stir-fry with soy sauce would work.

It shouldn’t be too hard to make sure you have enough calories not to lose weight, but you may find yourself needing to snack often.

Good luck.

Heartburn Foods To Eat
How long to develop heartburn symptoms?

I would like to determine which foods or drinks trigger my heartburn. Generally, for people who suffer from heartburn, after eating or drinking a trigger food, when I would expect heartburn symptoms? For example, 1 hour later after eating or 3 hours?

Yes I am also taking prilosec, but it has not been sufficient so I need to adjust my diet.

As part of your diet for GERD, you may want to avoid:

•Fried and fatty foods
•Chocolate
•Peppermint
•Tomato products
•Foods and drinks that contain caffeine
•Alcoholic beverages.

Coffee and alcohol actually stimulate your stomach to make more acid than usual. Alcohol, chocolate, and fatty foods are believed to cause the lower esophageal sphincter to weaken. The combination of too much stomach acid and a weak lower esophageal sphincter can increase the symptoms of GERD.

Other foods can make your symptoms worse. These include:

•Garlic
•Onions
•Carbonated beverages, such as soda
•Mustard
•Certain spices
•Vinegar
•Citrus fruits and juices.

I also find digestive enzymes help for me and to really chew your food more before swallowing. I would also raise the head of your bed six inches. For me, the tomato sauce is the worst.
